Insider Tips
On the Stokksnes peninsula, you’ll find a replica of a Viking village, originally built as a film set that was never used. Although it’s a bit weathered, the village adds a historical and cultural element to your visit. You can walk around the wooden buildings and imagine what life might have been like during the Viking era. There is an additional fee to visit the Viking village, which is separate from the entrance fee to the main Stokksnes area.
Stokksnes can be visited year-round, but the best time to experience its beauty is during the summer months (June to September), when the days are long, and the weather is more predictable. However, winter visits can also be magical, especially if you’re hoping to capture the Northern Lights with Vestrahorn as a backdrop. Just be prepared for cold temperatures and possibly challenging weather conditions.
Getting There
Stokksnes is easy to reach by car from the Ring Road. After turning off Route 1, you’ll drive along a gravel road that leads to the Stokksnes parking area. The road is suitable for all vehicles, and the drive itself offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Once you arrive, there’s an entrance fee to access the area, which helps maintain the site and the facilities available.
Admission & Opening Hours
This area is part of a privately owned land, but it is open to visitors for a small fee.
