The best time to visit Dynjandi is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is mild, and the roads are fully accessible. The long daylight hours during this period also mean you can visit late into the evening and still have plenty of light for photography.
In the winter, access to the Westfjords can be challenging due to snow and ice, but those who make the journey are rewarded with a frozen, otherworldly landscape. The waterfall itself can partially freeze, creating an incredible icy spectacle.
Getting There
ynjandi is located about 90 kilometers (56 miles) from Ísafjörður, the largest town in the Westfjords. The drive to Dynjandi is an adventure in itself, taking you through some of Iceland’s most dramatic and unspoiled landscapes. The roads are mostly gravel, and while they are generally passable in summer, a 4x4 vehicle is recommended for extra safety, especially if you plan to visit in shoulder seasons.
